One of the main challenges of a true scale-out system is effectively scaling the metadata to enable practical scale-out without compromising performance. Traditionally, this is solved using a metadata server that becomes a performance bottleneck or by TOKEN sharing between nodes that becomes less effective as the cluster grows.
