About this talk

While investors are making commitments to decarbonise their investment portfolios, there remains a significant methodological gap—there is no internationally-agreed framework for assessing the climate-related risks and opportunities associated with sovereign debt instruments. The solution to the issue would be a publicly available, independent, and open-source investor framework/database to assess the climate action and alignment of sovereigns. The Assessing Sovereign Climate-related Opportunities and Risks (ASCOR) Project— created and funded by a coalition of global institutional investors, representing over US$ 5 trillion in assets under management—is tasked with delivering this very solution. In this webinar, the following topics will be covered: • Why the ASCOR project is important (asset owner perspective) • The ASCOR Project and its consultation • Q&A • Next Steps for ASCOR

UNEP FI
United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a partnership between United Nations Environment and the global financial sector created in the wake of the 1992 Earth Summit with a mission to promote sustainable finance. More than 240 financial institutions, including banks, insurers, and investors, work with UN Environment to understand today’s environmental, social and governance challenges, why they matter to finance, and how to actively participate in addressing them. UNEP FI’s work also includes a strong focus on policy – by facilitating country-level dialogues between finance practitioners, supervisors, regulators and policy-makers, and, at the international level, by promoting financial sector involvement in processes such as the global climate negotiations.
