The practices adopted to identify and report on what ESG-related issues are material are changing and this is impacting investors. The way concepts such as double materiality and dynamic materiality are being implemented is developing and the outcome of the debates about the best approach has real implications for capital markets. Attention is also increasingly focused on the role and duties of directors and the governance structure required to effectively adopt these new requirements. This panel discussion shares insights on the approaches being adopted now and what to expect in the future in the UK, EU and US and why it matters to investors. The experts sharing their diverse perspectives are: DR DONATO CALACE is VP of Innovation and Accounts at Datamaran. He participated in the European Commission DG FISMA expert session on materiality and has been invited by ESMA to report to the Narrative Reporting Working Group (NRWG) on Datamaran’s innovative approach to materiality assessments. He is a member of the EFRAG Task Force on reporting of non-financial risks and opportunities. WOLFGANG KUHN is Director of Financial Sector Strategy at ShareAction with 20 years’ experience in fixed income markets. His most recent role was Head of Pan-European Fixed Income at Aberdeen Asset Management. Previously, he worked for UBS, Deutsche Asset Management and DG Bank. ANTIONIO FUERTES ZURITA acted as global head of reputation and sustainability of Naturgyand, leading the company to world-class results in sustainability indexes and ratings and supporting green bonds issuances. He has an active role at the Institute of Directors of Spain, a member institute of EcoDa. DR LAURA GIRELLA is Senior Technical and Research Manager at International Integrated Reporting Council. She is a member of the Stakeholder Reporting Committee (CRC) of the European Accounting Association and published many articles international academic journals, books and professional journals.
