Professor Jill Atkins, Chair in Financial Management, Sheffield University Management School discusses her research and recently published paper that explores the nature of private social and environmental reporting (SER). From interviews with UK institutional investors, her research shows that both investors and investees employ staged impression management as a means of creating and disseminating a myth of social and environmental accountability. Dr Chris Biehl, Lecturer in Responsible Business University of Birmingham interviews Professor Atkins to explore her research, findings and why it matters including her insights on what challenges lie ahead for the next generation in terms of shareholder engagement.
