One of these frameworks, Cisco pyATS, offers an even more modern approach towards infrastructure as code and network automation: test-driven automation. Test-driven automation combines elements of the popular test-driven development process, which encourages simple designs and inspires confidence in solutions, with Python-based infrastructure as code to create a revolutionary approach to network automation. The Cisco pyATS framework provides developers with the tools required to capture network state, push configurations, and easily test the resulting network state and configuration against intent.

YANG Suite is HTML5 based tooling that is available for working with the YANG based programmable interfaces on Cisco IOS XE, XR, and NX Network Operating Systems. The device lifecycle is supported with the tool specifically for Model-Driven Programmability and Model-Driven Telemetry use cases. Today’s applications are dynamic, using virtualization, containerization, microservices, and workload mobility technologies, with communication patterns between application components constantly changing. The Cisco Secure Workload platform is designed to fully address these challenges, using comprehensive traffic telemetry data collected from the workloads. The platform performs advanced analytics using an algorithmic approach and provides comprehensive workload protection for a multi-cloud data center. This algorithmic approach includes unsupervised machine-learning techniques and behavioral analysis. Based on this, Cisco Secure Workload can automatically generate a micro-segmentation policy based on application behavior and including any existing security policy mandated by business requirements. On top of that, it can consistently enforce this segmentation policy across a multi-cloud infrastructure to minimize lateral movement.

Protecting your Cloud-Native Applications with Cisco Secure Workload

GitOps and CI/CD provide significant benefits to a Kubernetes environment from an immutable audit trail to pre-deployment testing.

However, Kubernetes, initially, did not make use of a GitOps model but instead provides its own deployment path using writes to the Kubernetes API. There are a lot of Kubernetes users who are comfortable with the native Kubernetes API and the related CLI tool ‘kubectl’. Due to the way the Kubernetes API is designed, it is possible to use a GitOps CI/CD chain, or a kubctl API call to make a modification to your Kubernetes cluster, but you can’t do both. The current tooling makes a kubectl call incompatible with GitOps.

In this talk, we’ll cover the pros and cons of each model, and why they don’t play so well together. We also will discuss some options we are considering on how to harmonize both paths, and, if the code is ready in time, maybe even have a demo to show.
