About this talk

We are entering the era of the software-defined vehicle. Autonomous vehicles must intelligently connect and communicate not only within its own complex vehicle systems but with the external world as well. Given the complexity of autonomous driving and with so much at risk, the issues of safety and security are more critical than ever. In order to stay vigilant against threats, OEMs will need to consider themselves as software companies. This session will investigate: • Complex cybersecurity landscape • Link between Functional Safety and security • Use cases around security, including remote diagnostics and maintenance As it pertains to safety and security needs, there are real parallels between automotive with other mission critical systems. Instead of reinventing the wheel, the automotive industry can learn from other industries, such as aerospace and defense, with similarly tight safety restrictions (or what lessons can airplanes and spaceships teach the autonomous car?). In this session, Wind River will share insights about: • Changing software landscape, especially with the growing trend of the Internet of Things, and how it is adding complexity to automotive systems. • How the connected and autonomous vehicles can and will need to securely “talk” with its surroundings in the smart cities of the future. • Varied cybersecurity threat landscape for connected and autonomous vehicles • Parallels between automotive with other mission critical industries with similarly demanding safety and security restrictions; and lessons to be learned • The link between functional safety and security, and the need to fuse safety and security requirements together. • Key use cases around security, including remote diagnostics and maintenance • Innovative architectures and technologies to address increasing compute complexity in automotive systems and how to ensure these systems stay secure.
