The Chinese economy has slowed, as the country’s zero-Covid-19 policy takes its toll and regulations hit home. The geopolitical landscape remains a morass. So, the question is: do emerging markets make a compelling long term investment?  

In our view, 2022 will undoubtedly be a challenging environment for investors. However, valuations in both equity and bond markets have already priced in these headwinds to a large extent. As such, we believe this creates an attractive environment for diligent investors with proven research and selection skills.

In this webinar our experts discuss what they’ve learnt through their 35 years on-the-ground-experience of investing in emerging markets. US small-cap performance floundered around the time of the Covid-induced market bottom in March 2020. But in the months that followed, the asset class rebounded strongly. More strongly, indeed, than large caps. Because small caps have historically outperformed after bear markets, this was no surprise. 
But then, in the spring of 2021, small caps started to underperform. So the question now is: Are small caps just taking a breath?
