Customers are searching for outcomes, not products, so the integration of solutions to achieve the desired goal wins. When it comes to hosting the enterprise edge, a multi-tenant datacenter (MTDC), rather than a hyperscale setting, can be a fast and less complex option because connectivity to necessary partners is already in place. Networking with service providers, content delivery networks, and other retail tenants can be established quickly through software-programmable interconnection. According to 451 Research, the top factors for selecting a geographic location for enterprise datacenters are security, network connectivity and accessibility by IT staff. Latency is a benefit of edge deployments but is not the primary driver. It is critical to understand the role of the datacenter in the edge ecosystem, which has evolved into a connectivity-rich setting supporting a hybrid approach to compute, storage, security, and services. Without the ability to provide these services near the data users, as well as network transport to the final destination, we cannot efficiently manage, store and analyze our data.
