LME and Argus: spotlight on the used beverage can (UBC) market

Presented by

Christian Mildner, London Metal Exchange; John Betz, Argus; James Souder, Sustainability Consultant, Metabolic

About this talk

In the first of our webinars putting our new products in the spotlight, we will be joined by Argus and Metabolic to discuss the used beverage can market. UBC prices have become increasingly volatile and have deviated substantially from price development of traditional indexing methods on primary aluminium. This summer, the LME will launch its LME Aluminium UBC Scrap US (Argus) contract to provide a risk management tool for the North American used beverage can (UBC) recycling industry. UBCs are infinitely recyclable and turning them into new cans saves energy and resources. This contract forms part of our drive to support the circular economy and greater sustainability in the metals market. In this session, we'll discuss: · Fundamentals of the US UBC market · Challenges around US can recycling rate · Argus UBC benchmark price · The LME Aluminium UBC Scrap US (Argus) contract · Use cases for the UBC contract Speakers: Christian Mildner, Head of Corporate Sales, London Metal Exchange John Betz, Senior Aluminium Reporter, Argus Media James Souder, Sustainability Consultant, Metabolic (Circular Products and Services Lead)
