About this talk

Just over 1 in 10 Americans have diabetes, putting them at heightened risk during the COVID-19 pandemic. But it’s not just the patient who is impacted: our families and our healthcare systems want to help ease the burden of diabetes for everyone. Management of chronic health conditions like diabetes requires patients do multiple, coordinated behaviors that can be hard to start and sustain. Successful solutions use behavioral science to affect people’s decisions and actions, applying it at scale to move each person to better health. In this episode, Lirio's Chandra Y. Osborn, PhD, MPH, is joined by Lindsay S. Mayberry, MS, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of the Effective Communication Core, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Kelsey Ford, DrPH, Behavioral Designer, Lirio. Together they'll discuss barriers to managing diabetes, how tailored communications encoded with behavioral science overcome them, and why scaling behavioral science is a game changer. Learn more about: - How text messages encoded with behavioral science and tailored to overcome patients’ unique barriers improved both diabetes management and glycemic control - Why family members both create barriers to diabetes management and are critical for overcoming them - Lirio’s approach to using nudges and behavior change techniques to overcome barriers to healthcare utilization and closing gaps in diabetes care
