  • API & Microservice Platforms for Government May 20 2021 6:00 pm UTC 62 mins
Chris Borneman, CTO of Software AG Government Solutions, and Randy Heffner, Forrester Vice President and Principal Analyst
Government systems are in a constant state of change. From new regulations, new ways of interacting, changing employee and constituent expectations, evolving security threats, and for a host of other reasons requires us to change and modernize our technology. Many organizations are starting to embrace the use of APIs and microservices. But only 13% of companies using microservices say their architecture is production-proven for a high quality of service. What’s more, agencies have invested billions of dollars over the last decade creating their existing capabilities. How can an organization leverage their existing investments while delivering the change that is needed, at a faster pace, lower cost, and built-in flexibility? Come hear our guest speaker, Forrester vice president and principal analyst Randy Heffner, along with Chris Borneman, Software AG Government Solutions CTO, as they discuss:
•Why APIs and microservices matter for government
•How the demands of business innovation should guide your API and microservices approach
•The role of product teams and business domains in unified API/microservice design
•What are some of the key elements of an API and microservice platform
•How an API platform can speed your time to value

  • Application Rationalization: What to do when you don’t know what to do Recorded: Mar 3 2021 36 mins
Robert Crawford, Former Deputy CIO, IRS & Jeff Chancellor, Principal Systems Engineer, Software AG Government Solutions
Rationalizing an application portfolio is no longer the realm of elite organizations and it can no longer only be driven by cost conscious CIO’s. The survivability of the enterprise rests in its ability to respond with certainty and agility in a constantly churning environment. Rationalizing your application estate does result in streamlined IT processes and reduced costs. The secret value unleashed in a well-executed application rationalization program is better measured in the elevated conversations it causes between the business and IT organizations, and in its ability to drive radical transformation. A little disruption can go a long way!
  • The Key to a Successful DoD Data Strategy: Secure APIs & Hybrid Integration Recorded: Jan 27 2021 41 mins
Scott Guenther, Principal Systems Engineer at Software AG Government Solutions
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced its new data strategy in October 2020. In it, the DoD shared its plan to transform into a data-centric organization by using data to help the department fulfill a number of missions. With a focus on API-led hybrid integration, we will address some of the challenges facing the DoD data strategy – accessibility, discoverability, security, and scalability – and discuss the capabilities required for a successful implementation of the DoD Data Strategy.

Join us to learn how to:
    • Unlock data from any data source
    • Rapidly expose data and services with APIs
    • Support a collaborative API lifecycle
    • Secure your APIs and implement zero-trust architectures
    • Share up-to-date information quickly and reliably with APIs
  • APIs – The Secret Ingredient For Government IT Modernization Recorded: Dec 14 2020 8 mins
Darryn Graham Solutions Architect, Software AG Government Solutions
APIs are a key enabler for modern software companies like Amazon and Netflix. But government agencies are often saddled with legacy systems built without APIs. Some agencies have been able to overcome these limitations to begin to operate with the same speed and agility that modern software companies do. Learn how any agency can create new APIs to gain the flexibility to not only evolve their IT ecosystems, but also to avoid costs.
  • Government Application Rationalization Playbook implemented in Alfabet Recorded: Nov 10 2020 52 mins
    Jeff Chancellor
The US Federal Government published an Application Rationalization Playbook to assist agencies on maximizing their IT investments. The playbook was developed by the Cloud and Infrastructure Community of Practice (C&I CoP) as a practical approach for agencies to get started on their application rationalization journey. The playbook is based on industry best practices and adaptable for ready implementation within COTS Enterprise Architecture tools and IT Portfolio Management solutions.

Software AG Government Solutions uses its Alfabet EA/ITPM solution to organize and rationalize large application portfolios across the US Government and comes configured to support Application Rationalization and Consolidation. Alfabet is easily adjustable via configuration to be tailored to not just the CoP playbook but also further to agency specific assessment and scoring mechanisms.

In this webinar, we will examine the six phases in the playbook and demonstrate how Alfabet supports each phase. As a workflow-enabled, fully integrated repository, Alfabet can incorporate metrics and measures from other systems to provide many perspectives that lead to rationalization activities or projects.

If you are an Application Portfolio Manager or an Enterprise Architect responsible for assessment and scoring for applications, you should plan on attending this webinar.

  • Integrating Legacy Systems with SaaS Applications Recorded: Sep 24 2020 30 mins
Bob Jeffcott, Principal Systems Engineer, Software AG Government Solutions
To this day, government and higher education institutions leverage extremely stable mainframe applications in their day-to-day business. The problem with these applications is the poor user experience and the ability to scale as demand warrants, but, on the other hand, rewriting these applications can be costly and risky. With that being said, one of the noticeable outcomes of the COVID-19 response is the accentuated need for Legacy Application Modernization.

During this webinar, we will learn how to:
    • Upgrade the User Experience and migrate functions of the legacy applications as needed in a low-risk fashion
    • Integrate the Legacy Systems with Low Code Cloud-based Applications (LCAP)
    • Opening up legacy applications to improve the User Experience does not mean having to completely re-write applications
    • An overview and demo of the process of integrating legacy systems applications to Low Code Applications, as they have been successfully performed at several State of Texas agencies in the last three months
  • Integrating for an Evolving Supply Chain Recorded: Sep 9 2020 21 mins
Chris Borneman, Vice President and CTO, Software AG Government Solutions
Our supply chains are under tremendous pressure to adapt and change to meet the demands of flexibility, increased visibility, and introduce new capabilities. However, the way we connect our supply chain systems together, within the enterprise and across the supply chain, still primarily remains unchanged. Take a look at this video to see how to get there, what might be holding you back, and what are some key enablers to address this quickly and efficiently by leveraging your existing systems.

In Integrating for an Evolving Supply Chain, you will hear government success stories, including the US Navy, while the below key points are discussed. How to:
    - Extend existing investments while reducing operational costs
    - Eliminate friction to creating secure internal and external connections
    - Embrace API-led integration approaches and services in a vendor-neutral way
    - Produce auditable transactions and financial statements

This was presented at DSI's 18th Annual DoD/VA & Government HIT Summit in June of 2020.
  • Government Success: How Delaware State Courts Unlocked their data Recorded: Aug 11 2020 36 mins
Betsy Bachmurski, Application Support Project Leader, AOC, Judicial information Center, Delaware Courts
When a citizen needs information about their court case schedule and monies owed for court fees, this information is stored on the mainframe in multiple legacy systems. The courts would have to access several systems to generate reports to send via mail or email to the citizen. Then the citizen would have to arrive at the courts early to pay their fees ask a clerk for their scheduled court room. Citizens can now call in on an IVR system connected to the mainframe to receive accurate real-time information. Judges and attorneys also benefit from the modernized mainframe integration to retrieve and update court case data. The mainframe is home to critical data for Delaware state courts and an API-lead integration approach to modernization was the most efficient way to unlocking the possibilities.
