Designing and Configuring a DDS-TSN System

The Object Management Group® (OMG®) has recently released the new DDS™ Extensions for Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) specification. Towards a data-centric Internet of Ocean Things

The most recent version of the UK MoD's Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) includes a number of changes that outline the direction in which the standard is evolving.

In this presentation we will discuss:
- Some of the most significant changes in the standard (for example, integration levels).
- How those changes point towards an evolved future for GVA systems.
- How other significant technologies, such as TSN, could be important drivers for GVA in the future.
- How connectivity (for example, between simulation systems) is becoming critically important and how GVA is ideally situated to enable it
- What effects recent revisions to the Land Data Model (LDM) have had.

GVA and its Place in a Connected Future

Many medical, IIoT, and Industrial Systems require sharing of data across networks, across different transport protocols, or among devices.  These systems often require capabilities such as fault-tolerance, scalability, low-latency, and sub-system isolation. DDS enables these types of applications by providing a data-centric, highly scalable and efficient databus architecture. Furthermore, layering databuses has many benefits, including scalability, isolation, and redundancy.

However, key questions must be answered when designing a layered databus system:

Architecting your System with Connext: Designing a Layered Databus System

The war in Ukraine emphasizes the need to manage a military posture that places the United States and our global coalition partners in a heightened state of competition with malign actors worldwide. Synthesizing data from coalition partners and allies into information and intelligence that drives understanding and enables accelerated decision-making in a multi-domain environment provides both a posture to avoid a potential conflict, and also the decision-making advantage over adversaries if a large-scale conflict evolves.

For this reason, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) created the Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) strategy. To succeed, the JADC2 strategy requires the unimpeded delivery of real-time data that enables situational awareness over Zero Trust networks to Joint Force Commanders, regardless of the military domain or location. To accomplish this goal, we must embrace the U.S. DoD Strategy that transforms the DoD into a data-centric organization using data at speed and scale for operational advantage and increased efficiency and to “treat data as a weapon system and manage, secure and use data for operational effect.”

This webinar will describe the current state of the JADC2 strategy from a business perspective. We will also detail the requirements for creating a data-centric framework for JADC2 that enables real-time data sharing technologies to deliver information and decision-making dominance to Joint Force Commanders.
