Enabling Internal Mobility to Curb Attrition

Whether you are onboard yet or not, research is clearly indicating that the skills gap is real. In a Korn Ferry survey of 1,500 leaders around the world, 66 percent said there will be a shortage of talent by 2020. Slightly more than half said there would likely still be a shortage by 2030, and it could cost firms nearly $8.5 trillion in lost revenue. Organizations are turning to internal upskilling and mobility strategies to address talent shortages. The problem with building an internal mobility strategy is that there is ample data pointing to people, process, technology, and culture challenges, but few solutions offered to overcome them. This webinar will dig in to both and provide tangible steps for you to build and execute an internal mobility strategy in your organization.

  • We are Losing the Ability to Think, and What to Do About It Recorded: Aug 5 2020 60 mins
Dan Pontefract, CEO of The Pontefract Group
Society has lost its grip on what matters most: the ability to think. Though the root cause is by no means malicious, we have begun to reward speed over quality, distractedness over focus, and the negative effects suffered in both our personal and professional lives are potentially catastrophic. TELUS Chief Envisioner and author, Dan Pontefract, has led an investigation into our everyday thinking and the results are not good. Due to several alarming factors including busyness, time mismanagement and technology addictions, employees and leaders alike are struggling to cope.

What to do? Dan suggests the introduction of something he calls Open Thinking. We need a return to balance between three critical components of productive thought: dream, decide, do … and then repeat.

Many L&D teams say they put workers at the center of their learning strategies, but what does that actually look like? According to our latest study done with Harvard Business Publishing Corporate Learning, workers invest 3x more time developing skills on their own as they do through company-provided resources. They’re also 67% more likely to go to their professional network rather than their companies’ learning systems to build skills.
