How to Leverage the Virtual Twin Experience in Real-life; With Industry Examples

In order to identify strategies for bringing carbon emissions under control, one of the first steps we need to take as a technology community is to measure the actual emissions. Emissions caused by Scope 1 (fossil fuel burning) and Scope 2 (electricity consumed during production) are relatively easy to measure.

Digital Twin Platform Stack Architectural Framework

Systems Modeling Language™ v2 (SysML® v2), whose beta version was just adopted by our Board of Directors and is currently in its finalization phase, will enable modeling of increasingly complex systems as part of the evolving practice of model-based systems engineering, and provide improved precision, expressiveness, consistency, usability, interoperability, and extensibility over SysML v1.

The collection of SysML v2 specifications were submitted to the OMG Board of Directors for approval as beta specifications and have entered their finalization phase. The SysML v2 submission concluded five years of development with representation from over 80 organizations, resulting in three specifications and an open-source pilot implementation to validate them. It is anticipated that the final adopted specifications will be approved by the OMG in 2024 and that some of the tool vendors will have commercial SysML v2 implementations available at that time.

Composing Intelligent Transportation Hubs

Digital twins are gaining acceptance in Natural Resources sectors such as oil and gas, mining and metals, energy, and utilities, with aggressive adoption plans. There are differing perspectives and confusion about applications, definitions, value and approach.

The Digital Twin Consortium Natural Resources Working Group is focusing on the value and application of digital twins across the overall lifecycle of Natural Resources assets, processes and operations. The  group is also focusied on delivering standardized definitions, protocols and methodologies to enable the creation and application of precise, knowledge-rich digital twins that drive value by improving the application of capital to projects and operational excellence during operations and maintenance. With limited interoperability throughout the asset lifecycle, and confusion in the market created by a lack of standardization, the Digital Twin Consortium is building the ecosystem to solve these challenges.
