The Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) is a globally recognised membership organisation for claims professionals. The Institute sets the professional and ethical standards for those who work in the handling of claims through its qualification framework and guide to professional conduct.

This webinar will explore the topic of Alternative Accommodation.

In essence, the subject, at its core, is relatively simple in that Insurers agree to provide an indemnity to a policy holder for the costs of Alternative Accommodation, required due to Insured Damage rendering a property uninhabitable. 

In reality however there are a myriad of variables that come into play and require consideration when handling a claim involving Alternative Accommodation.  This is compounded by the fact that a claim that requires a person to move out of their house will, by its very nature, involve a lot of emotion and trauma.

This webinar will seek, with reference to real life examples, to:

*provide a brief overview of the typical cover afforded under an insurance policy providing cover for Alternative Accommodation
*explore some of the challenges faced by an adjuster dealing with a claim involving alternative accommodation
*look at some of the practical solutions available to the adjuster & customer
*provide an insight into the surprisingly high costs of alternative accommodation in the current market climate

The webinar will make specific reference to cross regional issues and also will include input & learned experiences from three adjusters specializing in very different product classes.

Property (SIG): Adjusting to Sustainability: Session 1

The final webinar will focus on the property itself and how the condition and restoration reports are compiled. We will also discuss in detail how projects are managed and executed. A number of restoration case studies will be reviewed.

Farcroft Session Three - Building recovery

Session two, will focus specifically on the contents of the property and the subsequent steps that need to be taken. Starting with the initial recovery and removal of the contents from the property, through to immediate triage steps to ensure secondary damage is minimised, prior to its storage. We will also discuss how the condition and restoration reports are compiled. A number of restoration case studies will be reviewed.

Farcroft Session Two - Contents protection

The first session will focus on the time after the first notification of loss is registered and the critical response to the instruction being received by the restoration company. From understanding the peril and nature of the event, understanding the property, contents and the insured expectations. How communication is key, from building rapport with the insured and also working very closely with the Loss Adjuster. Within this session we will share in detail how we approach such events, the importance of the survey and its role in collecting information but recognising how this visit can help reduce secondary damage.

Farcroft Session One - Event response

Session to explore the insurance industry shift to “Build Back Better” on flood claims and the Flood Re proposal to provide a grant of up to £10,000 per property to improve flood resilience. Framed with a Loss Adjusters perspective the session will prove invaluable for anyone working in flood related claims.

Property SIG: FloodRe - Build Back Better

Edwin Coe partners, Roger Franklin and Nicola Maher will discuss the impact of the recent Commercial Court decisions in the Stonegate, Greggs and Various Eateries cases on Covid business interruption claims.

In particular they will consider:

Aggregation;
Causation;
Furlough;
Other construction issues, including “the triggers”; and
The implications of the decisions for other claims.
