The Economic Crime Bill – what will it change?

About this talk

Over recent years governments around the world, including the UK, have been forced to act against those attempting to misuse our financial systems. On the 1st of March this year, the introduction of the new ‘Economic Crime (Transparency and Enforcement) Bill’ is the first step in the government’s plan to improve transparency of ownership of companies and property to dissuade criminals from investing their money in the UK. To add to this, on 28 February 2022, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) published a consultation on strengthening the UK’s framework for companies - ‘Corporate Transparency and Register Reform White paper’. Financial Crime experts Jane Jee (who is also a RegTech Women Board Member) and Sara George, Partner at Sidley Austin join us to offer insights into the latest paper. What will you learn from this webinar? • What the new Bill covers and the rationale for its provisions. • What we can hope will change as a result of the white paper and when. There will be plenty of time for questions, so register now to save your seat!
