Timothy Strauts is the Head of Research and Content for Morningstar Direct. He acts as the bridge between Morningstar’s research organization and the Direct product. In his role he leads the effort to integrate new data, research, and analytics into Direct. Prior to his current role, he was a Director of Quantitative Research where he led the U.S. analyst team. Tim has also held roles as a manager on the Markets Research team and a Senior Fund Analyst in Manager Research. Prior to joining Morningstar in 2010, he was a financial advisor for Smith Barney. Tim holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Phil Nagel is a senior product manager for Morningstar Direct. He specializes in manager research and the portfolio analysis capabilities in the software. He focuses on new product development as well as client support for Morningstar’s notebook offering. Phil partners with clients to perform in-depth holdings-based analysis for their portfolios. He also is experienced with the performance attribution capabilities used within Direct. Nagel holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Nebraska.
