Introduction to macroeconomics and asset classes in relation to DB pension schemes 1) Macroeconomics basics: 40mins (00:10:29) Understand the current economic environment against the backdrop of COVID-19 and beyond. In this session, we provide a high-level introduction to (amongst other things): • Inflation: causes, measurement. • Economic policy: fiscal and monetary. • Energy transformation: guide to the issues. 2) Fixed income, growth and alternative assets: 40mins (1:00:02) Here we cover the characteristics of mainstream and alternative asset classes that currently feature in UK pension scheme portfolios, and the importance of Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) considerations. 3) Why is it all relevant to DB pension schemes? 30mins (1:50:16) We bring it all together in the context of a DB pension scheme portfolio. How do we value pension scheme liabilities and why is investing for a defined benefit scheme different to any other investment strategy?
