Strain CMR Applications: Insights from Cardiovascular Anesthesiology Research

Presented by

Dr. Kady Fischer, Dr. Dominik Günsch

About this talk

Quantification of myocardial deformation by cardiovascular magnetic resonance feature tracking is of growing interest as the technique allows for a sensitive and quantitative assessment of myocardial function based on simple cine images. In this expert talk we will learn how strain analysis can also be applied in the field of anesthesiology beyond the common uses in cardiology and radiology. There will be an emphasis in CMR feature tracking, and the added value of a multi-parametric approach. Learning Objectives: - Identify strain principles and fields of application. - Recognize the added value of bi-ventricular CMR-feature tracking in combination with multimodal analysis. - Interpret diastolic dysfunction through CMR feature tracking - Give examples of strain derived parameters and their implications for pre-operative and peri-operative clinical use Dr. Kady Fisher, PhD, is a research associate in the cardiovascular anesthesia division at the Inselspital, Bern University Hospital in Switzerland. In both Canada and Switzerland, she has focused on CMR research for the departments of cardiology and anesthesia and will highlight in this seminar the translation of CMR feature tracking analysis between disciplines. Dr. Dominik Guensch is an attending cardiovascular anesthesiologist at the Bern University Hospital in Switzerland. His research group focuses on cardiovascular imaging, including TEE and CMR, specifically investigating pathophysiology related to anesthesia.
