Securing Amazon S3 in the Age of Covid 19

Join us as we dive deep into recent trends that have made cloud object storage the center pin for countless enterprise applications and an emerging threat vector for malware and viruses. Since the onset of Covid 19, cyber attacks have increased in number and severity as hackers take advantage of remote work. Ransomware alone has seen a 47% increase in the severity of attacks, on top of a 100% increase from 2019 to Q1 2020.

The session will examine multiple types of successful hacker attacks on Amazon S3, including details and recreation of how an Amazon S3 bucket can be compromised with ransomware. We will move quickly into why these buckets ended up vulnerable and what types of steps security professionals can take to minimize the success of these attacks.

Historically data was stored on network drives, NAS and SAN devices, and other hardware housed in on-prem data centers. As this data has migrated out of the proprietary data centers and into the emerging public cloud (IaaS) environments, the existing tools, policies, and skills needed to secure the data must keep up with the changing world. Our panelists will share best practices on how to bolster security for Amazon S3 utilizing AWS Native Security Services and new ideas and solutions that directly mitigate malware risk on Amazon S3.
