Presented by

John Eves, Major and Complex Loss Surveyor

About this talk

This session will cover: • Brief introduction to differing buildings and their objectives • Summary of a typical latent defect policy • Parties to a typical construction project and relevance to latent defect claims • Common defects within a modern property and pathology/diagnosis • Case studies/examples Presenter bio: John Eves joined the insurance industry in 2010 after 10 years in a senior role in private practice and 4 years after qualifying as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. John had formerly been within Cunningham Lindsey’s Major Loss division before joining Sedgwick Specialty in January 2019. John’s current team handles claim portfolios for several building warranty clients and also provide technical services to other clients and branches of the business. Latent defect claims present continual technical challenges, such as diagnosis of cause, assessment of policy coverage, validation and quantum through to final settlement and recovery. Many larger claims have a number of key stakeholders and require robust project management.
