Maturing Your Organization’s Information Risk Management Strategy

Organizational growth is often accompanied by an increased sophistication in adopting automation technologies and broadening the information management landscape. As organizations grow, they face more risks associated with the security and protection of sensitive data. Organizations struggling to navigate the different stages of business need to be sensitive to the increasing maturity necessary to support increasing demands for data governance and information risk management.

For example, the limited staff members of a start-up may be able to enforce data protection guidelines, but as the team size grows, they will need to handle different access control methods for different data analytics workloads that fulfill different business needs along that growth trajectory.

For companies with just an on-premises architecture, data governance and data policy management are often an IT-driven initiative, satisfied using coarse-grained access policies coupled with some fine-grained access control. However, as enterprises evolve to use hybrid cloud architectures, the complexity of a data landscape that spans multiple environments introduces increased risks to sensitive data. This includes inadvertent data exposure as well as malicious breaches executed by both external and insider agents. This is when data governance and information risk management must become more mature and become an enterprise initiative.

In this webinar, we explore the different levels of information risk and a data governance maturity model and discuss how different business factors drive different needs and capabilities at each stage of the cycle.

  • Striking the Right Balance for Privacy: CCPA, LGPD, and GDPR Compliance Recorded: Feb 11 2021 61 mins
Privacera CEO Balaji Ganesan, Gigaom Research Analyst Andrew Brust, Comcast Sr. Principal Software Architect Barbara Eckman
Want to make your digital transformation a success? Data governance and access control are key to that effort. Even if digital transformation doesn’t motivate you, compliance with GDPR, CCPA – and other regulatory frameworks for data protection – should. But implementing access controls manually, one data source at a time, won’t cut it anymore. Instead, you need a policy- and workflow-based approach that works across different repositories and platforms, in databases and data lakes, both on-premises and across multiple clouds.

It doesn’t end with access controls, though. You’ll need to automate data discovery and classification, so policies affecting sensitive data and other data types can be applied in an automated fashion, too. And as new platforms and users are on-boarded, these discovery and policy mechanisms need to be applied immediately. That way, analysts, data consumers and data engineers – even data scientists working on laptops – will have governed access to the data they need; no more and no less.
