Accelerating 5G Impact Through Cell Site Backhaul Automation

As mobile operators rush to deploy and expand their 5G coverage, they are all recognizing that the backhaul network, (the network of cell site routers and aggregation routers that carry traffic from the cell sites to the core network), must evolve to support the bandwidth and latency needs of performance-hungry 5G customers. Some providers have rushed to increase bandwidth while others have embarked on aggressive programs to replace older circuits with ethernet or optical links. With projections of growth to up to 8 million cell sites to support 5G, deploying and operating the backhaul network elements is a massive ongoing effort for networking engineers and operations teams.

Itential has been working with several mobile operators to automate their cell site backhaul networks and the results have been transformational, allowing these operators to accelerate their 5G programs. While enabling the transport network for new 5G capabilities like 5G network slicing, automation provides such benefits as reducing the cost to deploy and manage networks by 80%.

In this webinar, we’ll discuss why automation is ideal for 5G backhaul by discussing topics such as:

• Drivers for backhaul transformation
• Essential components of a backhaul automation solution

  • Modern Network Compliance: Achieving Compliance in a Hybrid, Multi-Cloud World Recorded: Oct 5 2021 52 mins
Rich Martin, Senior Technical Marketing Engineer
Today’s enterprise networks are expected to operate according to three tenets; security, reliability, and performance. This is why implementing a comprehensive method of ensuring network compliance is important to every organization. Network compliance ensures that every network device and service is properly configured and adheres to a clearly defined standard. This builds confidence in the network’s ability to operate optimally and creates a foundation of trust for further network automation.

Today’s modern network spans the both on-prem and multi-cloud environments, which poses a new challenge for network teams who must ensure compliance for all areas of the network. Traditional tools for delivering compliance only work with on-premises, CLI-based networks and lack any support for cloud network services that are managed though APIs. Network teams need a fresh solution for this challenge, so join Glenn Gray and Rich Martin for part 3 of Itential’s Modern Network Compliance series where they will discuss how to achieve network compliance in a hybrid and multi-cloud network environment.

In this webinar, we will dive into:

    • Understanding the complexity of cloud networks.
    • Uncovering the methods of delivering compliance to cloud networks.
    • Achieving on-prem and cloud network compliance with a demo of Itential’s Configuration Manager.

Glenn Gray, Director of Product Marketing & Rich Martin, Senior Technical Marketing Engineer
For enterprise networks to be compliant they must encompass two things: standards that define how networks are configured and ensuring those standards are enforced rigidly and uniformly across the network, whether it is physical, virtual, or cloud.

However, today’s modern and exploded network infrastructure includes a multitude of edge devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and with the addition of cloud-based services it’s only getting more complex. Effective management of the network in a holistic manner is crucial for operational consistency. Regardless of your network size or type, constant configuration changes to infrastructure components based on business and technical requirements are inevitable and organizations need a modern approach to ensure configuration compliance across all network devices and services.

In this webinar we will discuss:

    • Modern network compliance and why a modernized approach and process is required for today’s enterprise networks.
    • Sources and categories of network compliance.
    • How to extend compliance into cloud networks and show how to maintain compliance by implementing a Configuration Validation method into any configuration change process.
    • The necessity of moving beyond the break-check-fix cycle with Configuration Validation.
  • Achieving “Same Day” Delivery of Network Services Through Automation Recorded: Jul 29 2021 21 mins
Chris Wade, CTO (Itential) & Guru Ramamoorthy, VP, Global Head of Network Architecture (S&P Global)
The network landscape has changed significantly in recent years. After a long period of a relatively standardized, static model of layer 2 and layer 3 services based on LAN and core network topologies, new capabilities have become more prevalent. These include technologies like public/private/hybrid cloud networking, SDN, SD-WAN, virtualization/containerization of network functions, and the explosive growth in demand for fully functional, remote worker access. Due to these new technology additions, the CLI-centric network of the past has been disrupted by dynamic, virtualized, API-centric functions and applications. With each new technology introducing additional complexity to the operations and management of the network, developers and users need access to “same day” availability of network services with the same agility and flexibility that has come to be associated with the public cloud providers.

In this webinar, hear how S&P Global Digital Network Services team has developed an automation strategy using the Itential Automation Platform to automate and orchestrate both traditional and emerging network technologies and provide self service capabilities in order to significantly improve agility, velocity, and to better align network services and capabilities with business objectives.

  • Integration & Federation: The Key to the Next Wave of Network Automation Recorded: Apr 13 2021 59 mins
Morgan Stern, VP of Automation Strategy, Itential and Karan Munalingal, Senior Solutions Architect, Itential
As automation becomes more pervasive in organizations, users are starting to recognize the impact that automation can make in saving time and money as well as improving accuracy. Due to this, automation use cases are evolving from simple changes to more complex operations. However, the challenges most organizations face is how to utilize their automation tools to be as effective in automating complex, multi-domain use cases as they were in automating simple changes. This is becoming clear in scenarios where the number of devices and controllers within most organizations is skyrocketing, such as SD-WAN or Mobile Edge Compute (MEC). With the growth of these technologies, and others such as SDN, NFV, and orchestration – organizations have deployed a wide variety of systems, controllers, and functions to interact with the network.

While it may be possible to connect to all of these systems, the problem becomes how to organize and manage the data from these systems so that users (humans) and other systems (machines) can interact with the network in ways that are simple, predictable, and repeatable. This is why data integration, transformation, and federation are crucial components for scaling network automation. Without federation, the NetOps team must contend with a growing and massive disorganized list of elements. Instead of focusing on how to automate network changes, organizations must have a reliable method of how to connect and manage data with simplified access that enables automation for everyone.

In this webinar, we will explore how the Itential Automation Platform provides:

    • A way to address the challenges of complex, multi-domain networks with an API first approach.
    • Comprehensive transformation and federation capabilities that allows for a unified and abstracted view across your networks as a distributed source of truth.
    • Low-Code automation studio for simplifying automation and enabling the largest participation possible across your organization.
  • Simplify Configuration & Compliance Management Across Network & Cloud Recorded: Mar 23 2021 48 mins
    Rich Martin
In the past, networking teams had complete control over their entire network because they were built using physical routers and switches, which made it straightforward to create boundaries around the network. But, in today’s exploded network environment across the Internet and multiple cloud platforms, these boundaries are no longer clear and well defined. With Gartner predicting that “By YE21, network teams will spend 3x more time working in public cloud infrastructure than they do today,” they need new tools to help shift from purely controlling a bounded network, into a world where they provide governance over the dispersed infrastructure.

So how do networking teams make the shift from control to governance for managing configurations? This requires a modern solution to successfully address the challenges of Day 0 to Day N network device configuration deployments of existing on-prem infrastructure and cloud-native and SaaS-based networking services.

In this webinar, we will explore how the Itential Automation Platform’s latest release provides a modern approach to network configuration and compliance management and demo how Itential can help by:

    • Providing a simplified, streamlined solution to configuration management for traditional networking devices that can also be applied to cloud-native network services like AWS VPCs or Azure VNets.
    • Implementing a single Golden Configuration tree that represents a universal baseline configuration, regardless of device location.
    • Eliminating the need to “swivel chair” by collecting and federating data to ensure a configuration change can take place with the highest quality of information regarding that device and its state in the network.
    • Applying end-to-end network governance with compliance and remediation across both on-prem & cloud-based network infrastructure.
