Cybersecurity is so often focused on securing enterprise infrastructures from external threats – for good reason. In fact, a 2023 study from Cybersecurity Insiders found that 74% of organizations are at least moderately vulnerable to insider threats.

Insider threats require an entirely different security approach, especially as they bring up an entirely new problem: accidental or unintentional threats. Not all internal damage is done maliciously, with many incidences tied more to human error than criminal intent. The Ponemon’s Institute’s “2022 Cost of Insider Threats Global Report” found that over half of insider threats (56%) came from employee or contractor negligence.
