How people work, where they work, why they work, when they work and what they believe about work are questions with diverse and always dynamic meanings. These historical shifts have been dramatically foregrounded over the past 2 years as people have reflected deeply on the role of work in their lives all within the shadow of social unrest and a global health crisis. Based on conversations with a diverse range of people, each of whom have shared how they think and feel about work in their lives, the Worker Identity Research Collaboration (WIRC) study identified four territories that we believe are worth mapping: Time, Risk, Humanity, and Relevance.
