A technical look at OpenStack to OpenShift migration

Presented by

Nick Satsia - Associate Principal Architect, Cloud, Red Hat

About this talk

With hardware end of life and virtual network functions (VNFs) replaced by container-based, cloud-native network functions (CNFs), service providers face the challenge of apportioning their capital expenses. CNFs are more demanding on hardware resources, so adding another layer of containerization between the service and the virtualization platform might not be desirable. In this session, we will look at transitioning an application platform to a container-based architecture while maximizing return on investment (ROI) in new hardware and software with a smooth transition. More specifically, we will look at relocating hardware-based compute resources from OpenStack to OpenShift and how to balance the VNF and CNF workload across platforms.
