With hardware end of life and virtual network functions (VNFs) replaced by container-based, cloud-native network functions (CNFs), service providers face the challenge of apportioning their capital expenses. CNFs are more demanding on hardware resources, so adding another layer of containerization between the service and the virtualization platform might not be desirable.
