The UNC Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute has been advancing knowledge to transform children's lives since 1966.

We have accomplished much over the last 50 years, but a great deal remains to be done.  This third and final webinar in the series will look at TA priorities for IDEA early childhood systems including remarks from the Office of the Secretary of Education, U.S. Department of Education. Keynote speaker Dr. Seena Skelton, author of the article “Situating my positionality as a Black woman with a dis/ability in the provision of equity-focused technical assistance: a personal reflection” will promote the notion of critically conscious TA providers and TA organizations. Remarks by Dr. Skelton will be followed by a national panel focused on priorities for IDEA 0-5 TA with a special focus on the role of TA to engage in the transformational work of dismantling oppressive structures and creating anti-racist practices, policies, and systems.

Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in TA: Inspiring the Field for the Future

The Trohanis Technical Assistance (TA) Projects at FPG continue to be instrumental in supporting the development and dissemination of innovations in early childhood technical assistance. Our second webinar will feature keynote speaker Jani Kozlowski, national TA provider and author of the book, Every Child Can Fly: An Early Childhood Educator’s Guide to Inclusion, that will be released in Spring 2022. Remarks from Jani Kozlowski will be followed by a national panel discussing current priorities and practices in IDEA 0-5 technical assistance including building systems capacity to implement and sustain high-quality early childhood inclusion; developing the knowledge base on engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning opportunities and social emotional development for young children with disabilities; and building equity within and the evolution of effective TA practices.

Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in TA: Informing Our Work in the Present

Beginning with the ground-breaking work that Pascal “Pat” Trohanis started in 1971, the Trohanis Technical Assistance (TA) Projects continue to educate and support state systems with implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).  Our first webinar will kick off with keynote speaker Judy Heumann, a lifelong disability rights activist who served as Assistant Secretary of Education for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services during the Clinton administration.  Remarks from Judy Heumann will be followed by a national panel discussing the history and evolution of TA to support young children with disabilities and their families.
