So many schools and college leavers along with college and university graduates are now realising the value that employers attach to the work experience and the transferable skills gained from an apprenticeship and with the advent of the Apprenticeship Levy, and the relaxation of eligibility rules, more graduates than ever use an apprenticeship after their degree to gain that all-important role-specific training.

Bridging the Skills Gap

For many companies, the discussion around a return to the office is part of a much larger picture, with the success of remote work completely transforming the way organisations operate, but more importantly, where.

Nineteen months into an unprecedented shift to work-from-home, many leaders are more convinced about the productivity working from home can bring, but some are still no closer to giving up the office. However, with research from LinkedIn showing that 44% of staff believe those who work in the office are more likely to be favoured by senior team members, and with the recently announced four-day working week trial within the UK, is it time for us all to head back to the office?

The 'Proximity Bias':  Should we all be back to the office?

Where is the line between performance management and supporting ill-health?

For many of the working population, their day jobs can be stressful in and of itself. However, for many, they have the additional struggle of having to hide and deny one of the most fundamental aspects of who they are.

According to a report from LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall, one in ten black, Asian and minority ethnic LGBT staff have been physically attacked because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, compared to three per cent of white LGBT staff. Similarly, research from TotalJobs showed that 60% of trans respondants have experienced some form of transphobic discrimination in the workplace.

So, what can we do in order to create an inclusive and supportive culture when it comes to supporting our diverse peers?

Creating an inclusive workplace: Showing your people their value

In today's 'always on' culture, managing employee burnout has become a priority for many organisations, with a survey from careers site Indeed finding that over half of respondents already felt burned out, and more than two-thirds felt that things had gotten worse in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With burnout now officially recognised by the World Health Organization as an occupational health issue, many workers have taken matters of burnout into their own hands, choosing to prioritise their mental health through self-care and striving to find a better work-life balance.

But, does the responsibility for managing burnout sit with the employee or the employer?
