In our previous webinar on Responsible Generative Artificial Intelligence, participants voted overwhelmingly in favor of increased regulation surrounding creating and deploying Generative AI systems. 

The European Union has been the first to propose regulation. The UK is looking towards a pro-innovation form of regulation, with the US securing voluntary commitments from leading AI companies. 

Intellectual property is a significant concern, as well as risks to the public, in the areas of bias, privacy, and trustworthiness. 

On October 4, John Easton of IBM will discuss the potential implications of these emerging regulations, intellectual property concerns, and the role of AI ethics. Cheranellore Vasudevan will provide an overview of the upcoming Responsible Generative Artificial Intelligence White Paper.

A Responsible Approach to Regulating Generative Artificial Intelligence

Governments, social scientists, technologists, and even the heads of AI organizations are expressing concerns about the potential misuse of the power unleashed by Foundation Models and Generative AI. Many nations and organizations have already started taking steps to regulate this powerful technology to prevent possible misuse and disruption of the societal fabric. Fear and concerns are synonymous with the approach toward nuclear technology worldwide. 

The teams of the Object Management Group (OMG) Responsible Computing Initiative launched a Tiger team to study and evaluate the potential concerns regarding Generative AI Techniques (GAIT) and recommend ways to channel the capabilities of GAIT responsibly to benefit society. 

Specific objectives include investigations on how to:

- Instill trust and reduce bias in the data used to build GAI models.
- Recommend proper and ethical use of AI models whilst protecting the intellectual rights of authors, artists, and other professionals.
- Regulate the proliferation of AI models to ensure no disruptive effects on employment, society, and the environment.
- Educate the consumers, administrators, and governmental bodies on the dangers and limitations of excessive use of AI models.

The different tracks of this initiative are:

• Ensure trustworthy Generative AI Models, which must be based on accurate and unbiased data.
• Impact on the Labor market, especially many white-collar jobs like copywriters, interpreters, and even professionals like investment advisors, editors, lawyers, customer support professionals, creative writers, doctors, etc.
• Issues related to IP, copyright violation, ownership, royalty, etc.
• Impact on the environment with the power-hungry deep learning process to build(train) GAI models.

Michael Linehan (OMG) and Cheranellore Vasudevan (IBM) will present their thoughts as they start their work on this initiative.

Dark data, as defined by Gartner, is the information assets organization collect, process, and store during regular business activities and generally fail to use for other purposes, for example, analytics, business relationships, and direct monetization. Organizations often retain dark data for compliance purposes or use it once and then file and forget, which incurs more expenses and risk than value. Dark data that we overlook leads to relevant issues: it takes up tremendous space in data centers, generates greenhouse gas emissions, and in some cases, leads to incorrect conclusions and disastrous decisions and/or actions. 

In this webinar, we will analyze at data's relevant role in business today and the significance of data in digital transformation. The origins of dark data will be explored, and the different types of dark data will be examined through a wealth of real-life examples. The webinar will also address the implications of dark data on the ongoing maintenance, storage, CO2 emissions, and its impact on organizational sustainability goals. 4. Your computer eats up gigabytes of data that cost money to maintain, even when your computer is “off.” Data can be used unethically by training data sets that might be racially biased or misusing AI. 

5. Systems can also be irresponsible. A system is an integrated set of technologies that provides a service to human beings via various factors. To be responsible, they must consider various outcomes. We want inclusive strategies that address bias & discrimination. This is all the more reason to be aware of responsible systems.
