About this talk

One day, as a systems admin, I was asked to just “deal with” the web application firewall, and now — six years, five countries and 18,000 miles later — I’m in the C-suite. Full disclosure: I’m a mediocre systems admin, an okay engineer, an acceptable architect and a reasonably good InfoSec officer. What links these roles, and my rise through the corporate layers, is that somewhere my hard work hit a wall and the executives said, “You know what? You’ve done well but how about you head upward while the more apt people finish what you started?” So here I am, rising far too quickly, doing just enough to keep my imposter syndrome at bay — and I’m somehow succeeding without really trying. Come find out how!
