dataBelt® is a data compliance and cleansing tool available on-premise or in the cloud, used to create accurate and consistent data for error-free processing.
With dataBelt®:
- ROT or NOT data is defined as “Redundant, Obsolete and Trivial” - data that is no longer, or possibly never was, any use to an organisation
- Redundant data represents duplicate data either within the same system/location or another, like duplicate copies of an employee’s passport within an HR system
- Obsolete data is either inaccurate or no longer in or of use to the business. For example a file containing an old company address or telephone number
- Trivial data represents personal files such as photographs of pets or song downloads
- Some estimates put the ROT issue as affecting around one third of business data, and it could contain PII data, PHI (health) data, and PCI (payment card information)
- Consequences of excessive volumes of ROT data include: large amounts of storage required, increased costs, impact on reporting and a decrease in productivity.
Using dataBelt, your organisation can become ROT free by:
- Defining criteria or using dataBelt’s OOTB models
- Indexing data and creating a virtualised data lake
- Running dataBelt’s ROT analysis against one or more indexes, and tagging data automatically according to ROT status
- Processing the ROT data – either deleting, moving to another location, or keeping in place
- Repeating and tracking ROT statistics over time using dataBelt’s Data Landscape snapshot reporting module
