An Introduction to Thales Data Security Solutions

Historically, manufacturers enjoyed relatively low risk of cyberattacks, due in part to minimal internet connectivity and a prevalence of non-cloud IT infrastructure. Today, the situation is much different, with internet connectivity pervasive throughout organizations due to internet of things (IoT) devices, distributed and cloud infrastructures that include third parties. The survey was conducted by 451 Research, part of S&P Global Market Intelligence, and includes data from 90 automotive and 157 non-automotive manufacturing security leaders and practitioners worldwide from 17 countries.  Among the highlights from the report we found that:
 
-          74% of automotive and 63% of non-automotive respondents have seen an increase in ransomware.
-          51% of automotive and 61% of non-automotive manufacturers reported having 5 or more key management solutions.
-          Only 26% non-automotive manufacturers can fully classify all their data.
-          80% of all manufacturing respondents indicated they were concerned with the risks of remote work.

The effects of cyberattacks on critical infrastructure are not only inconvenient, but they can also be life-threatening. 2022 Thales Data Threat Report Critical Infrastructure Edition summarizes the most important findings gathered from a survey of leaders and practitioners within Utilities, Energy, Transportation, and other Critical Infrastructure organizations. The survey was conducted by 451 Research, part of S&P Global Market Intelligence, and includes data from 300 Critical Infrastructure executives from 17 countries.  Among the highlights from the report we found that:
 
-          39% of respondents reported a security breach in the past 12 months, 6 points above the global average. 
-          45% said they have no formal plan in case of a ransomware attack.
-          Only 28% reported complete knowledge of where their data was stored.
-          79% indicated they were concerned with the risks of remote work.

In 2021, ransomware saw the greatest increase in attacks with 48% of respondents of selecting it as a real concern.  That number rose to 60% in 2022. 
When it came to data, in 2022, 19% of US federal respondents had complete knowledge of where their data was stored.  Only 25% of all respondents said they could classify all their data and 53% said they could classify at least half of their data.
