Desktop Virtualization: the Future of Work

Presented by

Rachel Chalmers, Research Director ICE, The 451 Group

About this talk

Just as server virtualization provided a shim underneath server workloads to make them more manageable, desktop virtualization is poised to transform the way we think about workspaces. From dynamic assembly, combining OS and application streaming with stateful user data, through a choice of deployments on the server, client or cloud, all sped by storage and network I/O innovation and groundbreaking work in graphics remoting protocols, desktop virtualization is a technology whose time has come. In this session, we will break desktop virtualization down into its component parts, explain the competitive landscape, present exemplary case studies and glean best practices from the field, and end with a look ahead to the emerging model of desktops-as-a-service.
