Surviving the Data Storms: Steering around Sunk Safe Harbors

Presented by

Stuart Ritchie, Privacy Lawyer & IT Architect

About this talk

The European Court decision to invalidate the Safe Harbor agreement makes unlawful many if not most data transfers from Europe to the United States. This is just a wake-up call. Boards and IT departments alike are scrambling to find solutions, not only to Safe Harbor but also the data-heavy new law finalized at the end of 2015. This presentation introduces: - where the Safe Harbor judgment came from; - why almost everyone misunderstands it; - the dwindling options for data transfer; - the new law, and why data non-compliance is becoming more dangerous than data breaches; - the new data compliance projects we must finish by the end of 2017; - solution approaches for Board and IT alike.
