Profitably Building and Scaling Public Clouds

Presented by

Douglas Gourlay, Vice President, Arista Networks

About this talk

The challenge in public clouds is not just leveraging an elastic compute model, but working within a pricing model defined by Amazon, a sizing scale defined by Google, a velocity of growth achieved by Facebook and an economy of administration realized by Microsoft Azure. Today's enterprise vendors are taking products built for the enterprise and trying to re-purpose them to meet the cloud requirement, yet it simply does not work: their cost models are too high, their margin expectations too great and their cost of sales out of proportion with their R&D investment to deliver cloud-scale infrastructure at a price point needed for you to build your cloud and achieve all of the economies of scale possible. In this session you will learn about several models for building profitable clouds, walk through a case study of several large Tier-1 PTTs that have done so and explore automation capabilities to delight customers and improve service delivery.

Cloud computing is a general concept that incorporates software-as-a-service (SaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS), infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and other recent well-known technology trends in which the common theme is reliance on the Internet for satisfying the computing needs of the users. This channel features presentations by thought leaders who cover the key topic areas in this increasingly important field.
