Why do organizations struggle when building a CMDB? Mainly because they either fall victim to the idea that discovery tools will get it done for them or because they work to create the CMDB in a vacuum, so it can be checked off the list of things to do to implement ITIL. While discovery tools will help build a data base of the physical assets on a network, there is still manual effort needed to build the relationships between these assets and the services they support. When people begin to realize the scale of this effort, they frequently give up.
So what's the answer? First, realizing that the CMDB is part of a full life cycle and second, building an approach that enables the CMDB to evolve along with the organization's services. This webinar will present an approach that will help organizations tackle this building and maintaining the CMDB as an ever-evolving component of their ITIL life cycle implementation rather than approaching it as something to be completed.
