The 4 Headaches of Backing Up The Virtualized SMB

The Four Challenges To Backing Up The Virtualized SMB

Virtualization has made its way into the small to medium sized business (SMB). In fact many SMBs have a higher percentage of virtualization than do larger enterprises. But like the larger enterprise they face four challenges when it comes to protecting these environments.

•First, because of their high percentage of virtualization, the shortcomings of legacy data protection applications are harder to overlook.

•Second, the typically thin SMB IT staff needs a product that is easy to learn and operate but also can take care of itself.

•Third, the SMB IT staff can't afford an elaborate disk backup target to deliver disaster recovery capabilities. The SMB virtualized backup product must leverage simple cost effective methods to both curtail on-premise data storage growth and establish an off-site repository.

•Finally the SMB Virtualized Backup solution needs to be within the reach of the typically modest SMB budget.

In this informative seminar Storage Switzerland's Lead Analyst, George Crump and NAKIVO's CEO Bruce Talley will lead an interactive discussion that covers these four data protection challenges facing the virtualized SMB and how to overcome them.

    Storage Switzerland, Tegile Systems
    Find it With Multi-tiered Flash!
The all-flash data center was to solve all our problems. We’ve had all-flash arrays for ½ a decade. Where are the all-flash data centers? The problem is that performance and cost have been opposing forces in data storage systems for decades, especially in the initial all-flash era. Recent advancements in flash technology are finally breaking this tension and are enabling a new class of applications while driving costs down dramatically.
  • What's Next in Storage for Managed Service Providers? Recorded: Jun 28 2017 60 mins
    Storage Switzerland, ClearSky
The cloud has brought both risk and reward to MSPs. In today’s hybrid cloud world, MSPs must deliver consumption-based, private and public cloud offerings to their clients. This includes offering primary storage, offsite backup and DR that is high-performance, scalable and secure. Outsourcing primary storage along with backup and DR enables an MSP’s customers to reduce their on-premises footprint software licenses, connectivity and the problems that come with it. It also sets up the MSP to offer hybrid services like DR as a Service and the new opportunity of copy data management - stop making copies.

  • How to “Future Proof” Data Protection for Organizational Resilience Recorded: Apr 27 2017 61 mins
    Storage Switzerland, Carbonite
Users expectations of IT's ability to return mission critical applications to production are higher than ever. These expectations are leading IT to abandon many of their backup and recovery solutions to try new, unproven solutions that may or may not solve the problem. In either case, the organization wasted its investment in the first solution for the unknown potential of a new solution. User expectations are certain to get higher, so this cycle will likely repeat itself. IT needs a new strategy, one that will meet the current expectations of users and pave the way for true organizational resilience.

    Storage Switzerland & HPE
Have you made the jump to all-flash storage? Are you planning to? If so this webinar is for you. We will look at what's next after (or before) the jump to all-flash. An all-flash array brings many benefits to the environment, but it also either exposes weaknesses or raises expectations in IT's ability to consistently deliver performance to applications, to protect the data those applications create and to ensure the organization can rapidly recover from almost any disaster.
  • Can Archive Save You More Than Money? Recorded: Apr 20 2017 13 mins
    Storage Switzerland and NTP
When most organizations consider an archiving project their primary goal is to save money. Basically they are looking to move data off of expensive storage valued at a couple dollars per GB to secondary storage valued at pennies a GB. They are counting on the 80/20 rule to save them money, where 80 percent of what an organization stores has not been accessed in the last nine months. Moving that 80% to less expensive storage will save them money. What most organizations that successfully implement a data management strategy actually find that the per GB cost savings is the most trivial part of the equation. In this ChalkTalk video, Storage Switzerland and NTP Software discuss the other more important reasons to archive data.
