We have spent the last five years analysing the errors of the banks. Over the same time the banks have been repairing themselves. They have delivered and recapitalised. Most have changed management and compensation has been reformed. Now we need the banks to provide credit to the economy. To do so we need to stop making them ever safer and ask them to take some risk onto their balance sheets. In short it is time for banks to get back to doing what they were designed for.

years in the City. He worked at NatWest, Deutsche Bank and then hedge fund, Arrowgrass Capital Partners, in that time. He started as a corporate banker before switching to economics in 1990 when joining Morgan Grenfell (subsequently integrated into Deutsche Bank in 1994). He was Chief UK Economist, Co-Head of European Economics and then co-head of Global Economics.

The title of The Forum’s Autumn 2015 conference was “20:20 vision” so asked our Members for their comments on their vision for the financial services industry in 2020 – insight into what the future might hold. We also went out on the street and got some vox pops from the general public.
Societal and technological changes are altering the way consumers interact with their bank.
