Voice Biometrics Update: Authentication at The Inflection Point

Momentum has started to build for voice biometric-based authentication. During the past six months, high-profile financial institutions, government agencies, health insurance underwriters and hosted service providers have integrated the technology into their phone-based, self-service and ID verification infrastructures. It can now confidently be called a “field-tested” technology.

Yet the transition from trial to trusted mainstay in phone-based security has been uneven to say the least. While the underlying technology fits the need for a reliable, easy-to-integrate resource for ID proofing, caller authentication and transaction authorization, prospects in IT, security and customer care functions all must be convinced that biometric-based solutions have long-term viability, while addressing issues of usability, affordability and integration with existing IVR and security infrastructure.
