“Database Archiving Fundamentals” will begin with a definition of database archiving contrasted with other forms of data archiving. The additional challenges long-term retention periods create in large databases will be discussed along with how database archiving can be used to address these challenges. The fundamentals of a primary business case will be given. We will also show how Database archiving can help deal with discontinued applications in legacy application renovation projects. A list of requirements that any database archiving solution should address will be provided.
