There is intense interest in research applications of organoids—mini-organs grown in a dish that are made up of different cell types that self-organize into tissue assemblies. By accurately mimicking human tissue biology, organoids hold great promise to revolutionize scientific discovery and healthcare with multimodal potential for new drug development, precision medicine, and regenerative medicine. Human organoids can be derived from either human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) or primary biopsy or autopsy tissues. However, there are significant challenges in quality control and reproducibility.

In this webinar, two experts in 3D cell culture and organoid biology will share their expertise on this exciting field. Proper Pipetting Techniques

Cell and gene therapies are typically developed using cells grown in a small-scale format, such as a well plate or T-flask. To bring such therapies through the process development, clinical trial, and commercial manufacturing phases, it is necessary to produce a progressively larger number of cells.

Cell cultures can be scaled out by increasing the number of vessels, but this approach increases the processing time proportionally. For adherent cell cultures, the best solution is to scale up by increasing the cell growth surface area of each vessel, which offers reduced processing time per million cells.

This seminar will explore several technologies for the initial scale up of adherent cell cultures and review considerations for subsequent scale up.

A Beginner’s Guide to Scaling Up Cells

This webinar will demonstrate the use of the Corning Matribot Bioprinter to accurately and consistently dispense pancreatic cancer organoids for drug testing. Dispensed organoid cultures were assessed for toxicity to several chemotherapeutics that are traditionally used for treating pancreatic cancer. Tutorial: Genes or Environment? Investigating the Behavior of Cancer Cells

A simplified approach for rapid analysis of thousands of intact spheroids using the Velocyt® LP Large Particle Flow Cytometer.

The Velocyt address the issues of 3D multicellular models: big objects, intact analysis, high sample numbers and total sample recovery. Using Corning® Elplasia® technology simplifies the Velocyt workflow and increases assay robustness and reproducibility.

Tutorial: Rapid Analysis of Intact Spheroids using the Velocyt® LP Cytometer

Throughout the medical community, there is a growing concern about the rising costs for bio-hazardous waste remediation. Organizations have begun to examine the effects on landfills, and the impacts of incineration, originating from this type of waste. Most organizations today are seeking more effective and new approaches to this critical process outside of the standard practice of removal and destruction of the bio-hazardous waste by a 3rd party vendor, but the options have been limited – until now. 

To combat this ever-expanding problem of RMW, Sterilis Solutions sought a solution that addressed all the impacts detailed above. The solution came in the form of their product, the Remediator. The Remediator, which is no bigger than a standard office copier, combines a steam sterilizer and grinder into a single unit. In a few simple steps, the biohazardous waste found in sharps containers and biohazard bags is reduced to what is essentially harmless confetti. It can then be entered into an advanced recycling program.

An Alternative Approach to Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) Hauling

Once thought to be merely evictees of cell debris, extracellular vesicles (EVs) hold the promise of the next generation therapeutic agent. EVs are known cell-to-cell messengers that mediate physiological functions throughout the body. Their ability to stealthily transfer paracrine factors, nucleic acids, proteins, and other essential biomolecules between distant tissues have the potential to usher in a new era of nanomedicine.

This webinar will focus on why stem cell derived EVs are a compelling acellular therapeutic. We will discuss the unique characteristics of EVs compared to other synthetic therapeutic agents and outline the critical attributes necessary to be a successful regenerative medicine alternative to whole stem cell therapies. We will explore how naïve EVs are produced, isolated, and characterized with an emphasis on emerging approaches in characterization and quantification methods.
