三毛猫は雌ばかりですが、これはエピジェネティクスによる性染色体の調節が関係するためです。
この遺伝の仕組みが提唱されて60 年に渡り、謎に包まれていた三毛猫の毛色を作る遺伝子「オレンジ遺伝子」を解明することに成功しました。
