Enterprise Grade Mobility: Opportunities & Challenges

In today’s operational world, businesses are encountering a push against their perimeter of operations, placing their data assets, and personnel at remote locations, where they will facilitate a business purpose. This linked to the need for always-on communications, and technological capabilities for contact, and 24x7 collaboration, can at times impact on the key area of security.

This session of enterprise grade mobility – opportunities, challenges, and security will look to investigate some of the exposures, challenges that the modern day business face, and lead on to demonstrate controls, and mitigations which may be leveraged to deliver operability, and security

  • Blockchain Modules Power the "BoAT" Recorded: Nov 19 2020 55 mins
Karl Weaver, Global Biz Dev Director - (BoAT - Blockchain of AI Things), aitos.io
aitos.io is a stealth embedded software security startup for the integration of IoT and Blockchain ecosystems to offer trusted identity authentication and data privacy preserving computational protection for the integrity of data originating and refined at the edge. All trust starts with securing the data at the source of collection, from the sensor to the module to the gateway and then to the cloud. aitos.io has partnered with 9 major cellular IoT module manufacturers and two global mobile network operators to promote the concept of a "Blockchain Module" with our "BoAT" or Blockchain of AI Things SDK middleware framework for the protection of data from the collection source. aitos.io plans to make our "BoAT" SDK the defector standard for protection of data at the source and actively partnering with virtual use cases, global MNOs, Cloud service providers and many IoT device manufacturers to realize the importance of protecting data and integrating IoT with the Blockchain for the integrity of trusted data.
  • To Boldly “Deploy Computational Storage”, Where No “Edge” has Gone Before! Recorded: Nov 19 2020 47 mins
Scott Shadley, VP Marketing, NGD Systems
In this session we will discuss today’s challenges that continue to be under satisfied when it comes to compute and storage at the edge. While there are many ways to increase and grow footprint at any ‘edge’ that work is needed to be done it has traditionally always been at some significant cost. That cost could be in Power, Performance, Footprint, Offload capability and Connectivity. When look at the Edge platform needs of the future, and taking a new paradigm shift view at ways to solve this equation with u-substitution like methods instead of brute forces, the elegance and ease of solving many existing solutions without increases from complicated models that exist today.

Computational Storage Drives from NGD Systems are the first in a line of solutions that are being standardized by the SNIA and other industry organizations to solve many issues at the edge and even core datacenters in ways never before realizable. This unique, made in the USA, hardware and software solution are married through a seamless programming model that makes deployment easy, simple and available anywhere. Including Outer Space – yes, literally space!! Want to know more tune in and see real-world, customer driven solutions and the value they bring to customers, users, as well as power grids, fabrics and all aspects of managing data at the edge.
  • From DevOps to EdgeOps: A Vision for Edge Computing Recorded: Nov 19 2020 39 mins
Frédéric Desbiens, Program Manager, IoT and Edge Computing, Eclipse Foundation
Devops and the Cloud transformed the way we build and run software. However, traditional devops tools and processes are not adapted to the rigours of the Edge. The main difference between Cloud and Edge environments is that engineers care about the physical location of the hardware. In other words: the Edge is literally anywhere and everywhere outside the data center and the public Cloud.

In this presentation, you will deepen your understanding of the differences between Edge and traditional computing environments. You will also learn about the specific challenges of the Edge, and discover why established devops approaches and tools come up short when confronted with them. Finally, you will explore EdgeOps, a vision for edge computing proposed by the Edge Native Working Group at the Eclipse Foundation.

  • Edge Computing: Tension field between Grown Structures & the CyberPhysical World Recorded: Nov 19 2020 59 mins
Harald Kirsch, Head of Automation and Industrial IT, ALD Vacuum Technologies GmbH
The manufacturing industry produces more data than any other major industry in the world, & ongoing digitization will further accelerate this development. Nevertheless, the digital mindset, which has already significantly changed other industries, has developed only slowly.

There are different ways to process this data by integrating a harmonized, highly aligned IT & OT environment. The question remains open as to which digital strategy will support a company in the long term in order to be able to profit directly from the generated data & at the same time meet future challenges.

A significant number of companies introduced a Cloud Strategy at a very early stage & thus an expected unlimited availability of resources or central storage of all data generated by their machines & employees. However, in the discussion about the use of Cloud Computing in companies, topics such as data security or compliance problems, but also physical challenges such as the possible data throughput on an industrial level, play a major role. Further strategies like Edge Computing come into play.

Edge Computing addresses precisely those areas in which the centralized approach of cloud computing is not sufficient. It focuses on geographically distributed, latency-sensitive & highly resilient computing & storage resources, which are usually located very close to production facilities. Possible bandwidth limitations, transmission delays & service failures are avoided, real-time & computationally intensive computing & data analysis services are optimized & the processing of sensitive data is better controlled.

The right concepts will be taking up a central role in the successful sustainable development of a company. In this context, my presentation is intended to provide some food for thought on how to meet the challenges & transfer them into reality.
  • How IoT Makes Cities Smart Recorded: Nov 18 2020 47 mins
John W. Koon, President, Tech Idea Research
Smart city is a hot topic today. It is exciting because it will bring great convenience to modern living. Think about the time you spend driving around downtown to find a parking place. Imagine if you simply open an app on your smartphone and it will tell you the closest parking place and how much it will cost. Additionally, you can pay the parking fees remotely without worrying that you would get a parking ticket. This is just one example.

Why are IoT manufacturers interested in the concept of smart city? Why are carriers like AT&T and Verizon are investing in creating smart cities? The business opportunities a smart city will bring are enormous. The possibilities smart cities will bring are unlimited.

This session will cover the concept of smart city and the role of IoT in it. What are the requirements for a city to be smart? What role does low-power WAN (LPWAN) play in smart city? What other technologies are needed besides IoT? A smart city case study will also be presented. Key takeaways:

    · Smart city is becoming a reality with smart lighting, cars, parking, building, traffic control, healthcare, street lights, and more.

    · How IoT makes it happen

    · Are all LPWAN created equal?

    · The role of artificial intelligence and 5G in smart city

    · What to expect in the next five years?

Ahmad Ali, Senior Consultant – Technology Alliances, Blue Prism
One of the key enterprise adoption patterns that we are witnessing in the telecommunications marketplace is CSPs moving towards an end-to-end and intelligent form of automation to build more impactful applications.

As we are now entering the era of 5G; Mobile traffic is expected to grow by 31 percent annually between 2019 and 2025 (source: Ericsson). Mobile operators must now look to introduce a sustainable ecosystem with hyperautomation at its core, enabling them to meet and service new market demands in 2021 and beyond.

Hyperautomation today involves a combination of tools, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Process Mining and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this webinar we are going to discuss how the clever combination of these digital transformation technologies can extend an organisations automation possibility to the next level, so that the previously un-automatable tasks become automated.

By leveraging hyperautomation operators can transform their processes to become more agile and efficient, affording the operators the opportunity to purpose their human workforce towards more complex orders and higher value activities - specifically in introducing new services to non-traditional market segments in emerging industries, untapping the full commercial opportunity of 5G.
