The recent publication of NIST Special Publication 800-88 Rev. 2, Guidelines for Media Sanitization, is drawing attention to storage security, but it is not the only development worth noting. One central theme underlying several of the activities is in storage sanitization (i.e., controlled eradication of data).

On-premises enterprise data centers have been in decline since the creation of co-lo’s and the cloud, but a new age is emerging with the advent of AI.
