Next generation edge computing applications will span from edge to core to public clouds. Setting up the compute infrastructure, various networks, and ultimately deploying and managing the applications manually will limit how quickly and cost effectively an enterprise can advance in their digital transformation efforts. In fact, with the expected scale of edge computing where there will be 10,000s if not 100,000s of edge sites, and 100s if not 1000s of application instances, automation will no longer be an option; it will be mandatory. In this talk, we will see how automation can reduce man-years of manual labor to just a few minutes. We will show a concrete example where automation is being used to set up a cloud edge site with the right applications and connected to relevant public cloud services with dozens of interim steps fully automated.
