Optimizing Virtualization for a Greener Data Center

Presented by

Scott Miller, World Wide Technology, Inc., Dir of BusDev for Virtualization

About this talk

Given today’s economic demands on business, data centers are continually being pushed to run more and more efficient. Server Virtualization is the most impactful and immediate way to achieve these efficiencies. Today most organizations have started to complete this process but it often stalls at 30% or less of the potential servers running virtual. Most of the “top tier” applications were not considered during the initial rollout. There are several reasons why companies “stall’ at this virtualization consolidation ratio but one of the most common is the lack of network and security insight that the Network team had into the virtual machines. Recent product advancements from VMware and Cisco overcome this hurdle and will be the reason why virtualization will continue to grow deeper causing the desired levels of cost savings and efficiency. This presentation will discuss these current hurdles and how these new products and platforms allow them to be overcome. Scott’s extensive product-agnostic background in data center virtualization solutions has made him an industry thought-leader. As the original co-founder of Server Centric Consulting, Scott led the trade in new methodologies and best practices for server based computing, application, server, and desktop virtualization solutions. Under Scott’s leadership Server Centric resided on the Technical Advisory Boards for both VMware and Citrix and was contracted by VMware and Microsoft to write white papers documenting their unique best practices for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). Scott joined WWT as their Director of Business Development for Virtualization in August, following the acquisition of Server Centric Consulting by World Wide Technology, Inc. Scott holds several certifications including VCP, CCEA and MSCE.
