Mastering software license compliance to reduce costs

How many times have you been told that for successful Software Asset Management (SAM) it takes more than just implementing a tool? But what exactly does this mean? In this session you will have the opportunity to join two experts who will discuss what it takes to implement SAM successfully. They will discuss the most common issues they have come across and how to solve them. And because license compliance is more than just comparing numbers, in this webinar you will hear about a 3-dimensional approach to adopting and sustaining SAM.

You will hear about:
• License contracts and entitlements and their importance to successful audits and license optimization
• License consumption for different license types from multiple sources, and how to optimize it
• License grants and assignments

Join us to learn some tips and tricks from the experts.

  • IT Trends for 2017 Feb 1 2017 2:00 pm UTC 60 mins
Hu Yoshida, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Hitachi Data Systems
A recent Forbes survey shows that Digital Transformation will be the highest priority for both IT and line-of-business executives in 2017. Business outcomes will drive IT, and IT will shift its focus from infrastructure to application development and analytics. Some of the major trends for 2017 will redefine the data center and focus on a number of key technologies that will enable the transition from legacy systems to systems of innovation. Operational Technology (OT) from sensors will begin to integrate with IT, and the foundation will be established for Internet of Things (IoT) developments that are currently in the proof-of-concept stage.
  • Stay ahead of digital disruption: SAP as APaaS Jan 31 2017 7:00 pm UTC 60 mins
Bob Politi, SAP Practice Director & Alex Froyo, Workload & Cloud Director, HPE, with Dr. Katy Ring, Director, 451 Research

  • IoT Challenges: How to Find the Answers on Your Network Recorded: Nov 23 2016 20 mins
Shaun Henderson & Peter Connolly, ExtraHop Networks
Whether they are ready for it or not, IT Operations teams have the Internet of Things (IoT), including BYOD devices such as smart watches, added to their growing list of responsibilities.

With employees bringing in potentially compromised devices holding malicious malware, it's time for enterprise IT to understand the environment and not just tick the security compliance box.

On the other hand, IoT poses an opportunity for IT organizations to add significant value to the business by providing real-time operational intelligence and enterprise architecture. A new network monitoring approach called wire data analytics analyzes communications on the network to extract valuable IoT security, performance, and even operations data—and requires no agents!

This webinar is ideal for any networking, architecture or security professional looking to improve visibility across their network, to reduce threats and vulnerabilities and especially those with a focus on the Internet of Things (IoT).
  • How to Integrate Hyper-converged Systems with Existing SANs Recorded: Nov 22 2016 41 mins
    Augie Gonzalez, Storage Virtualization Specialist
Part 1 of How to Hyper-converge like a Pro:

Hyper-converged systems offer a great deal of promise and yet come with a set of limitations. While they allow enterprises to re-integrate system components into a single enclosure and reduce the physical complexity, floor space and cost of supporting a workload in the data center, they also often will not support existing storage in local SANs or offered by cloud service providers. There are solutions available to address these challenges and allow hyper-converged systems to realize their promise. During this session you will learn:

    • What are hyper-converged systems?
    • What challenges do they pose?
    • What should the ideal solution to those challenges look like?
    • About a solution that helps integrate hyper-converged systems with existing SANs

  • Clustered File Systems: No Limits Recorded: Oct 25 2016 64 mins
John Kim, SNIA-ESF Chair, James Coomer, DDN, Alex McDonald, SNIA-ESF Vice Chair
Today's storage world would appear to have been divided into three major and mutually exclusive categories: block, file and object storage. Much of the marketing that shapes much of the user demand would appear to suggest that these are three quite distinct animals, and many systems are sold as exclusively either SAN for block, NAS for file or object. And object is often conflated with cloud, a consumption model that can in reality be block, file or object.

But a fixed taxonomy that divides the storage world this way is very limiting, and can be confusing; for instance, when we talk about cloud. How should providers and users buy and consume their storage? Are there other classifications that might help in providing storage solutions to meet specific or more general application needs?

This webcast will explore clustered storage solutions that not only provide multiple end users access to shared storage over a network, but allow the storage itself to be distributed and managed over multiple discrete storage systems. In this webcast, we’ll discuss:
•General principles and specific clustered and distributed systems and the facilities they provide built on the underlying storage
•Better known file systems like NFS, GPFS and Lustre along with a few of the less well known
•How object based systems like S3 have blurred the lines between them and traditional file based solutions.

This webcast should appeal to those interested in exploring some of the different ways of accessing & managing storage, and how that might affect how storage systems are provisioned and consumed. POSIX and other acronyms may be mentioned, but no rocket science beyond a general understanding of the principles of storage will be assumed. Contains no nuts and is suitable for vegans!
  • ESG's 7 Core Criteria for Comparing and Evaluating ITOA Platforms Recorded: Oct 21 2016 25 mins
Shaun Henderson & Owen Cole, ExtraHop Networks
As IT environments grow more sophisticated by the day, complexity rises and many CIOs and IT directors lose visibility of their assets and clarity into each asset's performance. The unfortunate result creates IT 'black boxes,' which bring detrimental hazards to enterprise customers when changes are required or things go wrong within interdependent environments. This problem extends beyond the walls of the data center and spans all offices and mobile workers.

According to ESG analysts' Dan Conde and Nik Rouda - "Modern monitoring must be real-time, at scale, and capable of providing visibility wherever IT assets reside. IT Operations Analytics is at the forefront of this monitoring evolution, but understanding how these often diverse technologies fit together and what benefits they deliver to IT can be complex."

Join us for a discussion on Conde & Rouda's seven core criteria for enterprise buyers currently evaluating ITOA and monitoring platforms.
