What can PostgreSQL do for AI application?

PostgreSQL is capable of efficiently storing and retrieving large amounts of data, such as training data for your models. Its wide support of the SQL standard, including SQL/MED, makes inspecting and querying that data a breeze. Moreover, PostgreSQL comes with similarity search capabilities, providing convenient index structures (GIST, GIN...) and built-in extensions (fuzzystrmatch, pg_trgm...).

Yet, there is more to PostgreSQL's ecosystem than the database server. There are more than 1000 extensions for PostgreSQL, many of which can be useful for AI developers and users, for example pgvector and PostgresML.

Telco edge cloud automation at scale

Recent changes at VMware have compelled existing customers to consider VMware alternatives. Many have turned their eyes to open source. However, migrating from VMware is not an easy task, and it will involve some changes in how you’re managing your infrastructure.

You might’ve joined our previous webinar where we talked about open-source solutions as an alternative to VMware software. In this follow-up webinar, we will go into more depth. We will compare the features and discuss the differences between VMware and Ubuntu-based infrastructure, and then dive into a few example migration scenarios. The migration process and tooling are also very dependent on the kind of workloads you are running, as well as what kind of platform you want to migrate to. How to migrate from VMware to Ubuntu-based infrastructure?

Open source is everywhere, but what’s its role in your company? According to Synopsys 2023 OSSRA research, around 96% of companies use open source in their codebases. From which at least 84% contained known vulnerabilities.

Nowadays vulnerability exposure lasts for around 98 days, which means that the majority of companies are not fixing known vulnerabilities in their codebases for 3 months. This is simply not acceptable. 

With this in mind we created Ubuntu Pro.

Ubuntu Pro is an additional set of features on top of your existing Ubuntu LTS.  The LTS is still secured in exactly the same way it has always been, with five years of security updates for the ‘main’ packages in the distribution, and best-effort security coverage for everything else. 
Ubuntu Pro is an additional stream of security updates and packages that meet compliance requirements such as FIPS or HIPAA, on top of an Ubuntu LTS. Ubuntu Pro was launched in public beta on 5 October, 2022, and moved to general availability on 26 January, 2023. Ubuntu Pro provides security fixes for the entire distribution (‘main and universe’ packages) for ten years, with additional extensions for industrial use cases.
