Using SPIRE to Assess Sustainability, Power & Energy, and Health & Wellbeing

In the midst of growth in edge computing driven by hyperscale entities, an important and emergent technology, CORD (Central Office Rearchitected as a Data Center) is being rapidly deployed by a majority of global carriers in support of their edge initiatives. In a CORD deployment, service providers reconfigure their existing municipal Central Office (CO) facilities into a low-latency edge computing ‘cloudlets’ and Colocation MTDC’s.

CORD initiatives strive to replace today’s purpose-built hardware with more agile software-based elements and in doing so, ensure that legacy carrier COs become an integral part of a larger cloud strategy, enabling resilient low latency network services to customers.

Understanding CORD Deployments (Central Office Rearchitected as a Data Center)

An Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) is a device that tests the integrity of a fiber cable and is used for  building, certifying, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic systems. Hand-held OTDRs build a virtual image of the fiber optic cable to determine the condition and performance capability of the fiber cable. These tools can also test components along the cable path like connection points, bends, or splices to analyze the cable’s capability from start to finish. This webinar will address what testing alternatives users should try first, when they have trouble with an installation, and when the situation would benefit from using an OTDR. The speakers will also discuss guidelines that will enable a more useful trace. When to use an OTDR

Over the past decade, the ICT industry has defined “the Edge” by using an evolving nomenclature and a variety of correlating applications encompassing everything from Far Edge, Near Edge and Enterprise Edge, to the IoT Edge, Edge Taxonomy, 5G Edge, and more. This murky understanding has caused the actual meaning of what constitutes as “the Edge” to easily get lost in translation. This webinar will feature a discussion with some of the authors of a new white paper published by TIA called, Where is the Edge?
